針對(duì)當(dāng)前教育領(lǐng)域存在的一些違背規(guī)律、影響正常教育教學(xué)秩序問題，教育部要求切實(shí)減輕學(xué)生過重的課業(yè)負(fù)擔(dān)，堅(jiān)決糾正各種隨意侵占學(xué)生休息時(shí)間、加深課程難度、增減課程和課時(shí)等做法。

自新中國成立以來，努力培養(yǎng)學(xué)生德、智、體、美、勞全面發(fā)展的宗旨一直都沒有改變，但現(xiàn)在人們似乎已經(jīng)忽略了這個(gè)宗旨。

上面的報(bào)道中，develop students' all-round abilities 是“培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的綜合能力”，也就是我們通常所說的“全面發(fā)展”，這里的“全面”（all-round）涵蓋的范圍上文中也提到了，分別是 morals（德）, intelligence（智）, physical fitness（體）, work（勞） and aesthetics（美）五個(gè)方面。

All-round 在這里的意思是“全面的，綜合的”，對(duì)學(xué)生來說就是各個(gè)方面都有所發(fā)展；那么在我們的國家建設(shè)中，“全面建設(shè)小康社會(huì)”就是 to advance China into a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way。而在體育界，all-round athlete 就是“全能運(yùn)動(dòng)員”，去年奧運(yùn)會(huì)上楊威拿到的體操“全能冠軍”則是 all-round champion/title。
