Many individuals strongly oppose this attitude though, they think if tourists do not follow the local way of life they may make serious mistakes, which in turn may cause clashes between the guests and the hosts. For example, Asian tourists may make their waiters or waitresses very upset if they do not follow the age-old custom of tipping after they have meals in North American restaurants. As a matter of fact, if tourists follow the customs of the local people, they get the really experience and understand different cultures, which is probably the primary intended goal of most overseas trips.
My own view is, over all, travelers should honor and cherish the cultural identity of their destinations while being expected to hold on to their own, which will make both the hosts and the guests feel respected and valued.
