【初賽原文】

This is definitely the most quoted line in all of English literature, so much so that you’ve probably seen it as a parody more often that you’ve seen it written out straight — for example, “Shall I compare thee to a bale of hay.” It’s one of the few poems that is just so cliché that, if a guy recited it to his girlfriend on a date, even the most love-sick of recipients would roll their eyes in disgust.

But when Shakespeare’s talking about “l(fā)ove,” he’s not talking about romantic love or feminine beauty– the first 126 sonnets in Shakespeare’s work are generally understood to be addressed towards a man, and many of the surrounding pieces are actually encouraging procreation.? Shakespeare isn’t wooing a beautiful woman; he’s telling a wealthy young ponz exactly what he wants to hear: that he’s just so damn sexy that it’d be pretty much the worst thing in the world if he didn’t have kids.

So if you’re a lady reading this, if any guy offers to compare you to a summer’s day, say “no, ’cause I’m not a dude.”? If you’re a guy, don’t offer to compare your lady to a summer’s day.? If you’re a man whose wife is trying to convince you that it’s time to have kids then…uh, that’s actually fine. Nicely done.

這絕對(duì)是英語(yǔ)文學(xué)中被引用最多的一句話，這句話往往不以原形出現(xiàn)，更多時(shí)候是人們對(duì)它的拙劣模仿，如：“我能把你比作一捆干草嗎？” 這句話出自莎士比亞的一首詩(shī)，像這首經(jīng)人們反復(fù)吟誦而成為陳詞濫調(diào)的詩(shī)為數(shù)不多。倘若一位男士在約會(huì)時(shí)向女友吟誦起這首詩(shī)，無(wú)論她如何渴慕愛(ài)情，聽后也勢(shì)必會(huì)很不屑地翻一翻白眼。

不過(guò)，莎士比亞所談及的“愛(ài)”并非指浪漫愛(ài)情或女性陰柔之美，人們一般認(rèn)為，他的前126首十四行詩(shī)是寫給男性的，而且許多首都是在鼓勵(lì)生育后代。莎士比亞筆下的詩(shī)不是“窈窕淑女、君子好逑”般的卿卿我我，而是向富家子弟娓娓道出順耳忠言：像你這般風(fēng)流倜儻，如果沒(méi)有子嗣豈不是世間一大憾事！

如果你是一位女士，當(dāng)有男子將你比作夏日時(shí)，要跟他說(shuō)“別這么說(shuō)，我可是女的?！比绻闶且晃荒惺?，不要主動(dòng)將你的心上人比作夏日。如果你是一位已婚男士，當(dāng)妻子苦口婆心地提出該要孩子時(shí)，那么這個(gè)時(shí)候打這個(gè)比方是沒(méi)問(wèn)題的，而且十分貼切。? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??

初賽的這段文字偏文學(xué)性，參賽的同學(xué)們?cè)陂_始翻譯前，至少要對(duì)莎士比亞的這句Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day 有所耳聞，否則整個(gè)譯文的思路就會(huì)比較偏離。小編在這里總結(jié)下大家比較集中的易錯(cuò)點(diǎn)：

很多同學(xué)在看到初賽原文都來(lái)詢問(wèn)小編，這里的ponz 是不是拼寫錯(cuò)誤？也有很多同學(xué)將這個(gè)單詞直接音譯成龐斯。其實(shí)根據(jù)收錄各種俚語(yǔ)、簡(jiǎn)寫、俗語(yǔ)詞匯的外國(guó)網(wǎng)站Urban Dictionary 的解釋，ponz 指的是：A person who has little to no qualities that make them interesting to other people or a certain group of people. 簡(jiǎn)而言之是無(wú)趣的人。

4. If you’re a man whose wife is trying to convince you that it’s time to have kids then…uh, that’s actually fine.

是妻子引用這句詩(shī)勸說(shuō)男子，還是男士自己背這句詩(shī)給妻子聽？根據(jù)上文的內(nèi)容我們可以清晰地理解兩點(diǎn)：（1）這句詩(shī)是念給男子聽的；（2）它是用來(lái)鼓勵(lì)生育的。所以結(jié)合上下文，應(yīng)該是女士引用此詩(shī)來(lái)勸說(shuō)自己的丈夫該要個(gè)孩子，這樣才會(huì)應(yīng)情應(yīng)景。
