These days, Glee’s Chris Colfer (Kurt) seems to have it all. He’s a fan favorite on the hit FOX comedy, a published author, a Golden Globe winner, one of Time’s 100 Most Influential — oh, and not to mention both the writer and the star of a celeb-studded movie set to hit theaters later this year. That’s a whole lot of accomplishments for someone who only just turned 22.

However, the Glee star’s life didn’t always look so great. In fact, his teenage years were downright horrible. In a new interview with men’s style site Mr. Porter, Chris opens up about his painful experiences with school bullies.

"I was harassed at school every day, called 'fa***t', I had things taped to my back," Chris says. He many have been the star of many a school theatre production, but Chris says he just didn’t fit in. He had a high pitched voice and more baby fat than most of his classmates. The result: People were not kind.

"For most of my adolescence I was in my bedroom writing or watching things I shouldn't be watching on TV, such as Nip/Tuck. And I was obsessed with superheroes. I had this thing where I wanted to be rescued. The other kids wanted to be Superman, but I thought Lois Lane kind of had the best deal."?Starting at age 14, the Clovis, California, native drove the four hours down to Los Angeles to try out for film and TV roles. Landing Glee at age 18 was his big break, and life’s been a whole lot rosier since then.

There may be plenty of ways that Chris and Kurt are different, but when it comes to having to deal with school bullies, the Glee star knows all too well what hearing those words can feel like.
