delayed over 140 flights, slowed road traffic and disrupted the operation of two subway lines in the afternoon rush hours.

Heavy rains pounded most parts of the Chinese capital, and the city of about 20 million people received 35 millimeters of
precipitation by 5 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Beijing
Meteorological Bureau.
直到昨天下午5點(diǎn)，北京氣象局發(fā)布的聲明稱此次暴雨襲擊了北京的大部分地區(qū)，這座約有2千萬常住人口的城市降雨量達(dá)到了35毫米。
"Precipitation in the Shijingshan district reached 165 millimeters by 5:30 p.m.," said Sun Jisong, chief engineer of the bureau.
北京市氣象臺(tái)首席預(yù)報(bào)員孫繼松表示：“截至下午5點(diǎn)30分，石景山地區(qū)的降水量甚至達(dá)到了165毫米?！?/div>
According to Sun, although the heavy downpour stopped around 8 p.m. Light rains are expected to continue into Thursday night and Friday morning.
孫繼松還告訴我們，雖然傾盆大雨已經(jīng)在晚上8點(diǎn)左右結(jié)束，但是零星小雨在未來兩天仍會(huì)繼續(xù)。
"The water in a low-lying section of the southern Third Ring Road is knee-deep," said a Beijing resident
surnamed Wang.
“三環(huán)地勢低的地方水都已經(jīng)沒膝蓋了，”北京的王女士說。
Wang said she saw a dozen cars suffer from engine failures as a result of the flooded roads, with drivers having to push their cars forward with their
bare hands.
王女士還告訴我們，她看到了不少汽車在水中熄火，車主不得不徒手推著他們的車在水中艱難行走。
A driver surnamed Cao said it took her nearly an hour and a half to reach a destination just a few kilometers away, due to the
gridlocked roads.
一位曹姓司機(jī)說，由于嚴(yán)重的交通堵塞，本來很短的一段路，她花了一個(gè)半小時(shí)才開到目的地。
More than 7,000 traffic policemen are working to ease the gridlock, according to the traffic management bureau.
